If you are needing to send packages to someone else or yourself in the case of moving, you will want to make sure you are packaging all the items correctly. This will ensure they do not become harmed and they reach their final destination.
Why Does Packaging Matter?
How you package items matters for a few different reasons. If your package will be in transit for a long time, the more chances it has to potentially become damaged. Packaging your item well ensures that no damage happens.
You also want to make sure the package is the right size so that you do not need to use too many fillers. The item will be more secure in the right package size rather than the box being too big and needing to be overfilled with wrap or peanuts to prevent damage.
Some fillers are helpful though to make sure your items are well-protected.
Packaging Small Items
If you have a parcel that weighs less than 150 pounds then you have a small package according to FedEx and UPS. You can place the item in a small cardboard box. This is better than packing with plastic or fabric.
Make sure there is a small gap of about two inches on each side of the item. You can fill the extra space with paper or Styrofoam if needed.
You should always tape the seams to make sure the parcel does not open by accident as this can cause serious damage and even cause your item to become lost.
Packaging Large Items
Packing large items is often a little more difficult because you need to make sure you have a sturdy box that can withstand the heavy weight of the item. One of the best materials is corrugated cardboard.
You also need to make sure the seams are extremely well sealed so that the box cannot become torn or ripped. Consider using a new box so that there are no holes or tears, even small ones.
Make sure to use enough foam and cushions to make sure the item is well protected. You also want to make sure the box is not too heavy though. Heavy boxes are more likely to be dropped since people might be able to get a good grip on them.
Keep these tips in mind when packing small and large items so that all your items are well packed.
